Joining the drive to achieve the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

Our Foreign Official Publications office aims to promote awareness of the eight goals to be achieved by 2015 [in response] to the world's main development challenges. The MDGs are drawn from the actions and targets contained in the Millennium Declaration that was adopted by 189 nations-and signed by 147 heads of state and governments during the UN Millennium Summit in September 2000.

Revitalising SA's Community Libraries

As part of our mission to promote creative, effective and efficient universal access to information, the National Library participates in a national project to revitalise South Africa's community libraries.

One of the National Priorities of this project in which the National Library is involved - is the promotion of writers and publishers in African languages:SA Classics

The National Library of South Africa has undertaken to reprint some out-of-date books in indigenous African languages that are considered classics.



Community Publishing Project: Grant for creative writing


The Centre for the Book invites budding writers and or organisation to apply for CPP grant to publish their creative literary works. The Centre for the Book will consider manuscripts that are written in South African Indigenous languages.

  • SMALL & INDEPENDENT PUBLISHERS CATALOGUE

In a follow-up to the publication of the catalogue of African Literature published by PASA,  the National Library is now in the process of developing the second catalogue of small and independent publishers.

All small and independent publishers are invited to contact the National Library of South Africa
to ensure that more titles become accessible
to all South Africans.
