SA Literature Catalogue Project
The National Library of South Africa being the custodian of national documentary heritage seeks to commit itself through this project to build and support a strong awareness of the national literary publications through research, compilation of catalogue, publicising and promoting the South African literary production.
Aims of the SA Literature Project
to develop a complete catalogue of published literature emanating from or adapted for South Africa
to undertake research and development of South Africa`s literature through published documents
to promote African Literature published by small publishers and authors
to provide appropriate information products for the development of African Literature catalogue
to present, in consultation and co-operation with the National Library of South Africa, challenges faced by small publishers and authors of indigenous literature
to ensure the most comprehensive collection (both historical and contemporary) of black South African writing published in South Africa and elsewhere
to ensure that this literature is accessible nationwide to public and community libraries
to promote, publicise and market published writers, publications, traditions and collections of South African indigenous languages literature
- to establish key partnerships in support of the project objectives
