Friends of the National Library
The Friends of the National Library was established in 1955 and have almost half a century of promoting public interest in the work of the Library, with an emphasis on support for and preservation of South Africa's literary heritage.
The Friends are involved in:
- arranging public meetings, lectures and exhibitions
- producing or supporting publications
- making use of the media to encourage interest in, and support for, the National Library
- direct fundraising activities, for example, the monthly Second Hand Book Sale
- soliciting gifts and donations for the Library
- making grants in support of National Library functions
Friends membership is open to all who support the objectives of the
Friends.
