Documents are made available for research through reference - and document supply services.
The National Library's collections contain a wealth of information sources, from rare manuscripts and foreign official publications to the extensive body of South African documents supplied in terms of legal deposit legislation. The collections include all South African books and periodicals, government publications, maps, technical reports, newspapers and pamphlets. These sources are in various formats ranging from print material to electronic sources.
Reference rooms
The National Library has two reference rooms in Pretoria and Cape Town respectively for on-site users.
Distance enquiries
Distance users can request information by mail, fax,
telephone and general enquiries e-mail to: info@nlsa.ac.za, or use
the reference question facility.
Document Supply Services
Publications from the stock of the National Library cannot be borrowed directly by individuals. However, the countrywide interlibrary loan or interlending scheme provides for book loans or the supply of copies of journal articles to users via their local libraries. The Pretoria campus of the Library coordinates interlending activities and the Southern African Interlending Scheme.
