Friends of the National Library

The Friends of the National Library was established in 1955 and have almost half a century of promoting public interest in the work of the Library, with an emphasis on support for and preservation of South Africa's literary heritage.

The Friends are involved in:

  • arranging public meetings, lectures and exhibitions
  • producing or supporting publications
  • making use of the media to encourage interest in, and support for, the National Library
  • direct fundraising activities, for example, the monthly Second Hand Book Sale
  • soliciting gifts and donations for the Library
  • making grants in support of National Library functions

Friends membership is open to all who support the objectives of the Friends.
