Welcome to our first combined NLSA/CFB Newsletter. This quarter we bid a warm welcome to our new CEO and National Librarian, Prof Rocky Ralebipi-Simela, who joined us on 1st May 2014. We are delighted to have her on board and look forward to working with her during what will be a very exciting time!

In this edition of the NLSA Newsletter we also welcome and introduce the Project Team of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Global Libraries Project. Read about South Africa and China National Libraries collaboration; what Legal Deposit is all about and the South African Book Fair where the NLSA had a strong presence.

The Centre for the Book reports on its very successful World Book Day Celebrations; its Out-to-Lunch Programme; a Toys Workshop held at Mt Ayliff Library in the Eastern Cape and an update of the Reprint of South African Classics in Indigenous Languages.

Also read about the fascinating photographic exhibition, 'Lenses and Shutters as Witnesses', that took place at the Cape Town NLSA Campus. Do take a look at the exciting upcoming events and important dates. With this quarter's useful link you can join David Lankes's popular free online New Librarianship Master Class.

We welcome any feedback and look forward to hearing from you. Do you have any interesting articles, photos or poems? Send them to us. Enjoy the NLSA News!

Best regards
