The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) hosted a Citeathon in February 2019 in participation of Wikipedia’s #1Lib1Ref campaign.
1Lib1Ref invited librarians globally to add value to the encyclopaedia by adding missing citations in order to improve the credibility of articles1. Some of the content added to Wikipedia is not backed up by evidence and is therefore non-factual. As a result, in most of Sub-Sahara, researchers, especially academicians, shy away from using the encyclopaedia. However, in low resourced settings it is still used as a key source.
