We require the following information to generate an ISBN:

  1. Title of the publication/s.
  2. Author detail – name, physical address, and contact number.
  3. South African Publisher / Self-Publisher detail – name, physical address, and contact number. If you do not have a South African Publisher, we will not be able to assist with ISBN numbers.
  4. Format – Print or Electronic or Both.
  5. ISBN is free of charge.
  6. Response – 4-5 working days.
  7. When are you planning to publish?
  8. Will your publications be available as Open Access?
  9. Must the ISBN be registered against the author or the publisher?
  10. Which external platforms will you be using to publish your book? If any platforms have SBNs to offer as part of the deal, please use them.

We don’t issue library cards; our publications are referrals. Only used internally for research.

 The National Library is free for all, no membership is needed

We are currently not borrowing items from other libraries for individuals on interlibrary loans
