Media Statement: National Library of South Africa Celebrates Nelson Mandela International Day

The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) is proud to join the world in celebrating Nelson Mandela International Day, an annual event that honors the legacy of our former President and global icon, Nelson Mandela. This day serves as a reminder of Mandela’s enduring commitment to peace, reconciliation, and social justice.

In the spirit of Mandela’s vision, the NLSA will host a series of activities aimed at fostering a culture of reading, learning, and community engagement.

In Pretoria, the NLSA will, in collaboration with the Libraries Association of South Africa (LIASA), City of Tshwane Library Services and Poort FM be visiting Nantes Primary School in Eersterust, east of Pretoria.

At the school we will be donating books, conducting story telling sessions for the Foundation phase learners and assisting with shelving of books in their school library.

In Cape Town, the NLSA in collaboration with Malmesbury Prison, will be donating books and computers to Oscar Mpetha High School in Nyanga.
